Violent clashes are taking place now between fighters and police elements in the Al-Iskandariyya area, north of Babil Governorate, south of Baghdad. The two sides had losses and that the initial casualty toll showed that at least eight people were killed and 11 others were wounded.

Iraqi Interior Ministry announced that last February witnessed a dramatic increase in the number of attacks against members of the Iraqi Police and Army, which resulted in the death of 232 members and the wounding of 274 others.

A US helicopter had an emergency landing today in southern Kirkuk, north of Baghdad, due to a technical problem. The incident resulted in the wounding of two pilots, who were carried to a medical unit to receive treatment.

Joint Iraqi-US forces carried out a raid operation in search of unit commanders affiliated with Al-Mahdi Army of Muqtada al-Sadr in the Al-Amil neighbourhood, in southwestern Baghdad, in the third operation of its kind since the implementation of the new security plan. The raid operation included searching the houses of two commanders of Al-Mahdi Army, who are suspected of storing medium and light weapons in the health clinic in the area, near the central markets, and of being involved in identity-based murder and abduction operations.
