Baghdad Governor Husayn al-Tahhan survived an assassination attempt which he was exposed to while on his way to Wasit Governorate, southern Iraq, to take part in the governors conference.

Unidentified armed men kidnapped four policemen in Basra Governorate, southern Iraq.

An officer at the cars theft bureau was wounded during an attempt to kidnap him in front of his house in Al-Ma'qil area, northern Basra. The police said that other armed men kidnapped the academic Diwan Abdallah in Al-Kafa'at area in the Natran area in central Basra, without offering further details.

The police in the Maysan Governorate, southern Iraq, seized six containers each holding 300 kilograms of the highly-explosive TNT substance in the Al-Tib area on the border with Iran.

A police patrol in Maysan today foiled an attempt to smuggle a tanker holding 36,000 litres of gasoline. The source said that the driver who escaped from the police was trying to smuggle the gasoline outside the governorate in order to smuggle it outside Iraq.

Some nine people have been martyred and seven others were wounded when three explosive charges went off in Al-Khalis City in the Diyala Governorate, northeastern Baghdad.

The police in Balad Ruz, east of Ba'qubah, announced that it arrested six people whom it termed as terrorist, and confiscated amounts of arms.

In Hit City, western Iraq, the US forces partially lifted the curfew which it had clamped on some neighbourhoods in the city, keeping the curfew on Al-Mu'allimin neighbourhood.

An explosion occurred in a parking in Al-Bayya neighbourhood, southwestern Baghdad.

Local residents and political parties participating in the Iraqi Government accused militias and security forces of committing an annihilation crime in Al-Amil neighbourhood.

US-Iraqi forces stormed Al-Sulaykh and Al-Qahirah areas, northern Baghdad, after blocking main exits in both areas." The report also notes that photos of all religious figures were removed from the front of all official departments and schools.

Two mortar shells fell on two houses in Al-Ba'th neighbourhood in central Al-Fallujah City, western Baghdad. Security sources said that the incident resulted in the martyrdom of a civilian and seriously wounding his brother, and destroying a house and damaging another. - MIDEASTWIRE.COM, Middle East
