Two roadside bombs went off under the convoy of the Interior Ministry under-secretary for financial affairs, killing seven people, including two of the under-secretary's guards, wounding five passers-by and burning two of the convoy cars. Maj-Gen Abd-al-Karim Khalaf, spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said that Halah Shakir, Interior Ministry under-secretary for financial affairs, was in the convoy when the two explosions took place near Al-Mustansiriyah University, but she was not hurt.

Police announced that two persons were martyred and five others were wounded when an explosive charge went off under four-drive-wheel vehicles in Al-Ghadir Street in eastern Baghdad. The sources added that the incident resulted in burning up one of the cars, and that the US forces cordoned off the area of the explosions."

In Al-Amil neighbourhood, southern Baghdad, an explosive charge went off, leading to the martyrdom of one person and the wounding of five others."

An Iraqi soldier was killed and two others were wounded when an Iraqi military patrol was ambushed by armed men in Al-Rashad area, on the main road between Kirkuk and Tikrit, north of Baghdad.

US soldiers fired indiscriminately at civilians in the city of Hit, west of Baghdad. Locals said that the incident took place when a US Army patrol came under light-weapons fire coming from an unknown source as the patrol travelled by in the popular market of the city. Three persons were killed and three others were wounded in the attack.

An explosive charge went off under a US patrol in the city of Ana in the Al-Anbar Governorate, western Iraq. A security source said that the explosion, which took place on the main road between the cities of Ana and Hadithah yesterday, damaged a Hummer vehicle. - MIDEASTWIRE.COM, Middle East
