US forces conducted an arrest campaign in areas in the southeastern part of Samarra, north of Baghdad, yesterday.

US forces conducted an air drop in Al-Bu Farraj village in Samarra and arrested a number of Iraqi people in the village.

US forces released Dr Kamal Abd-al-Fattah, a university professor and chief editor of Al-Rafidayn Weekly, who was arrested by the United States two moths ago 'without any charges levelled against him.'

Policemen killed five gunmen yesterday in Al-Suwayrah village, south of Baghdad. Another police source said that gunmen killed a policeman in Al-Kut, southeast of Baghdad.

A police statement in Mosul said that gunmen assassinated a police officer in central Mosul and another policeman was assassinated and six others, including four policemen and two gunmen, were wounded in armed clashes in the city. Another policeman and a civilian were wounded when a roadside bomb went off in northern Baghdad.

Adnan al-Dulaymi, head of the Iraqi Al-Tawafuq Front, said one of his guards was assassinated in gunfire by an unidentified source in Al-Yarmuk.

Iraqi police sources in the city of Al-Hillah have said that six civilians, including two women, were killed and 21 others, including three children, were wounded when an explosive charge went off in a popular market in Al-Maktabat Street in central Al-Hillah. - MIDEASTWIRE.COM, Middle East
